Jenny's father was Henry Peat and her mother was Janet Arbuckle. Her maternal grandparents were John Arbuckle and Marion Dick. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, John, Marion, Mary, Mary, Elsie, Annie and Isabella. She was the youngest of the nine children.
