Thomas' father was Thomas McPike and his mother was Agnes Gourlay Robertson. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Morrison McPike and Agnes McTaggart Mcclelland; his maternal grandparents were John Robertson and Agnes Gourlay. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Robert, John, Isabella, Agnes, Jeanie, Margaret and Rachel. He was the third youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 59 in 1962 in Stevenston.
