Margaret's father was Thomas McPike and her mother was Agnes Gourlay Robertson. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Morrison McPike and Agnes McTaggart Mcclelland; her maternal grandparents were John Robertson and Agnes Gourlay. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William, Robert, Thomas, John, Isabella, Agnes, Jeanie and Rachel. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 65 in 1962 in Ayr.
