Elizabeth's father was Hugh McLatchie and her mother was Agnes Reid.  Her paternal grandparents were John McLatchie and Janet Mcowan. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Andrew, William, Robert, Hugh, Sarah and Margaret.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 63 on February 14th, 1868 in Barnard Castle.  She was buried in Barnard Castle.
