Janet's father was Kenneth Mackenzie and her mother was Janet Ronald Milton. Her maternal grandparents were Peter Milton and Janet Ronald. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, Kenneth, Kenneth, Isabella and Sarah. She was the second oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 79 in 1978 in Glasgow.
