Robert was born on October 3rd, 1889 in Connecticut.

Robert's father was James Laurenson and his mother was Jane Martin Johnston. His maternal grandparents were David Johnston and Janet Cameron Masterton. He had five sisters named Nellie, Mary, Elizabeth, Annie and Minnie. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died before 1935.¹
