Walter's father was Walter Knox and his mother was Agnes Towers. His maternal grandparents were Michael Towers and Janet Mathie. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Walter, Bill, Janet, Phemey, Margaret and Maggie. He was the third youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 75 on January 24th, 1945 in Belfast.²³
