Barbara's father was Archibald Kerr and her mother was Isabella (Bella) Purdon.  Her paternal grandparents were Hugh Kerr and Margaret Anderson. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, James, Archie, John, Jean, Jeanie and Margaret.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 9 in 1875 in Paisley.
