Agnes' father was William Graham Howie and her mother was Elizabeth McDonald. Her maternal grandparents were William McDonald and Elizabeth Ferguson. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, James, Elizabeth, Mary and Agnes. She was the second youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 1 in 1902 in Govan.
