Isabella's father was Daniel Stewart Hotchkis and her mother was Janet (Jessie) Thompson Henderson. Her maternal grandparents were James Henderson and Isabel Walker. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Daniel, James, John, Jane, Jessie and Ellen. She was the oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 74 in 1924 in Eastwood.
