Julia's father was William Henderson and her mother was Isabel Nichol. Her maternal grandparents were John Nichol and Julian (Julia) Johnston. She had six brothers and four sisters, named James, Henderson, John, William, George, Matthew, Jessie, Maggie, Isabella and Jeanie. She was the second oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 85 in 1943 in Edinburgh.
