Alexander's father was Alexander Hamilton and his mother was Sara Fraser.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Isabella Adamson. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John, William, Hugh, Thomas, John, Mary, Janet, Isabella and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 60 on November 22nd, 1889 in Galston.
