Douglas was born in 1890 in Glasgow.1 2 Douglas' father was Robert Gilchrist and his mother was Agnes Shaw. His maternal grandparents were James Shaw and Jane Wason. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, Robert, David and Jane. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 97 in 1987 in Glasgow.- Death Notes
