John's father was Alexander Fraser and his mother was Isabella Adam. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Helen Hamilton. He had a brother and six sisters, named Alexander, Maggie, Helen, Isabella, Jessie, Mary and Jane. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died due to heart disease, myocardial degeneration, at the age of 81 on May 2nd, 1944 in Kirkcaldy. The funeral took place on May 5th, 1944 in Kirkcaldy.³⁴
