Jane, known as Jessie, was born on October 12th, 1840 in Mid Calder and her baptism took place there on November 1st, 1840.^1 2

Jessie's father was William Dick and her mother was Jean Spiers Brash.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Dick and Janet Smeal; her maternal grandparents were David Brash and Agnes Henderson. She had a brother and two sisters, named Robert, Agnes and Jane.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, George, Jessie and Sibella.  She died at the age of 2 on September 9th, 1843.  She was buried in Uphall.^1 1
