Magdalene's father was David Brash and her mother was Agnes Henderson.  Her paternal grandparents were David Brash and Margaret Easton; her maternal grandparents were John Henderson and Jean Spears. She had four brothers and six sisters, named David, John, David, Alexander, Jean, Agnes, Agnes, Margaret, Robina and Elizabeth.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 40 in 1872 in Edinburgh.
