Elizabeth's father was James Armour and her mother was Janet McDonald. Her maternal grandparents were William McDonald and Elizabeth Ferguson. She had four brothers and a sister, named William, James, William, John and Lizzie. She was the oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 3 in 1894 in Kilmaurs.
