Reuben was born about 1723.  Reuben's father was George Tankersley and his mother was Mary Longley Long.  His paternal grandparents were Reuben Tankersley and Sarah Ann Beverley. He had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Richard, John, Dorcas, Mary and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
