William Greenleaf was born about 1817.  William Greenleaf's father was Samuel Lowrey and his mother was Rachael Hannah Wortman Woertman Workman.  His paternal grandparents were John Lowrey and Mary Shelly; his maternal grandparents were Abraham  Woertman Workman and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John Milton, James H, Samuel E, Newton Hugh, Demereus, Isabel, Eliza C, Aley, Aley B Abby and Hannah Jane.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.
