Hugh was born in 1786 in Hamiltonban, Adams County, Pennsylvania.  Hugh's father was William Bingham Biggam Bigham (Bingaham Bingham) and his mother was Anne Wilson.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh Bingham and Martha Jane Armour; his maternal grandparents were Charles Wilson and Mary Wemyss Weems. He had six brothers and a sister, named Thomas Wilson, Charles Wilson, William, John Armour, James, Armour and Anna ELiza.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
