Alexander was born on June 14th, 1350 in Badenoch, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Alexander's father was Robert II Stewart and his mother was Elizabeth Muir.  His paternal grandparents were Walter Stewart and Marjorie Bruce; his maternal grandfather was Adam Muir and his maternal grandmother is Joan Cunningham Danzielstour Mure. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Walter, Robert, Robert III, Isabella Eupheme, Jean and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named David, Walter, John, Marjorie, Margaret, Egidia and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 44 on July 24th, 1394 in Scotland.  He was buried in Dunkeld Cathedral, Perthshire, Scotland.
