Hamelin was born in 1129 in Anjou, France.  Hamelin's father was Geoffrey V Plantagenet and his mother was Matilda Empress of Germany Queen of England.  His paternal grandparents were Fulk V D'Anjou and Aremburga of Maine; his maternal grandparents were Henry I Beauclerc and Matilda Dunkeld of Scotland. He had three brothers and a sister, named Henry II, Geoffrey VI, Guillaume and Emma.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 73 in April 1202 in Lewes, Sussex, England.  He was buried on May 7th, 1202 in Chapter House, Lewes, Sussex, England.

They had two sons and four daughters, named Jeffrey, William De Warrenne, Ida De Warrenne, Adela, Maud Plantagenet and Suzanne.
