Margaret was born about 1462 in Scotland. Margaret's father was George Douglas and her mother was Isabel Sibbald. Her paternal grandparents were William Douglas and Margaret Hay; her maternal grandparents are John Sibbald and Joan Livingston. She had a brother and four sisters, named Archibald, Anne, Elizabeth, Janet and Isobel. She is the youngest of the six children.
