William De Valence was born about 1225 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  William De Valence's father was Hugh X De Lusignan and his mother was Isabella Taillefer De Angouleme.  His paternal grandparents are Hugh IX De Lusignan and Matilda De la Marche; his maternal grandparents were Aymer Taillefer De Angouleme and Alice De Courtenay. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Hugh XI, Geoffrey, Henry, Guy, Agatha le Brun, Margaret le Brun, Alice le Brun, Aylmer and Isabella.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry III, Richard Angevin, Joan, Isabel and Eleanor.  He died on May 18th, 1296 in France.  He was buried in Westmister Abbey, Middlesex, England.
