Mabel Grace May was born on May 11th, 1899 in Caton, Steuben, New York. Mabel Grace May's father was James Lewis Whitney and her mother was Flora A Chase. Her maternal grandparents were Levi Solomon Chase and Minerva A Fenton. She had six brothers named Jefferson Lewis, Leslie Abram, DeForest B, James Leon, William Cowen and Oliver Wilkinson. She was the youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 50 on August 3rd, 1949 in Penn Yan, Yates, New York. She was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan, New York.General Notes

Grace Mae Whitney as she was always called had been given another name at birth of Mabel Whitney. She never told me that she changed her name and was almost impossible to find on the census records because she was using Grace instead of Mabel. I have been told that she was a very nice, respected woman. She took me to church with her when I was an infant. I was her second grandchild. My cousin Corky, Thomas Hilkert, was the first.
