William Cowen Whitney 
William Cowen was born on August 21st, 1895 in Caton, Steuben, New York. William Cowen's father was James Lewis Whitney and his mother was Flora A Chase. His maternal grandparents were Levi Solomon Chase and Minerva A Fenton. He had five brothers and a sister, named Jefferson Lewis, Leslie Abram, DeForest B, James Leon, Oliver Wilkinson and Mabel Grace May. He was the third youngest of the seven children.
