Joseph Jr. was born on July 10th, 1822 in Marion, Perry Co, AL. Joseph Jr.'s father was Joseph Evans and his mother was Amelia Hawkins. His paternal grandparents were Robert Evans and Sarah Hetty May; his maternal grandfather was Edward Hawkins. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Evan, Robert, Edward, William, Margaret Frances, Frances, Sarah Eloise and Amelia Millie. He was the youngest of the ten children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Jefferson C., James Franklin, Willis Granbury, John and Matilda Jane.-
