Jefferson C. was born on July 17th, 1842 in Marion, Perry Co, AL. Jefferson C.'s father was Joseph Evans and his mother was Jane "Jincia" Young. His paternal grandparents were Robert Evans and Sarah Hetty May. He had nine half-brothers and five half-sisters, named John, Evan, Robert, Edward, William, Joseph Jr., James Franklin, Willis Granbury, John, Margaret Frances, Frances, Sarah Eloise, Amelia Millie and Matilda Jane.
