His paternal grandparents were John Anthony WOOLF and Phebe WEEKS; his maternal grandparents were John Jr. DEVOE and Sarah Weeks. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named James, Isaac, John Anthony, Andrew E., William Henry, Homer, Wallace, Sarah Ann, Hannah Eliza, Phebe Elizabeth and Harriet.
