His paternal grandfather was Thomas Stewkley and his paternal grandmother is Anne Wood; his maternal grandfather was Lewes Pollard. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Lewes or Lewis, Thomas, Hugh, Anias, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth, Audrie, Agnes and Catherine. He is the sixth oldest of the eleven children.-
