Abigail was born on December 7th, 1728 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island and her baptism took place on June 10th, 1734 in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island. Abigail's father was Joseph SIMMONS and her mother was Rebecca WOOD. Her paternal grandparents were William Simmons and Abigail Church; her maternal grandparents were Johnathan WOOD and Elizabeth THURSTON. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Edward, Lod, Jonathan, Ephraim, Joseph, Betty, Susanna and Rebecca. She is the second oldest of the ten children.General Notes
