Colby was born on October 23rd, 1806 in Wilkes Co., NC, USA. Colby's father is John Coffee and his mother was Elizabeth Rucker. His paternal grandfather was Benjamin Coffee and his paternal grandmother is Polly; his maternal grandfather was Colby Rucker and his maternal grandmother is Sarah Roberts. He had six brothers and five sisters, named George, Jesse T., Ashburn Osborn, Benjamin, John Jackson, William, Sarah Lucinda, Elizabeth, Nancy, Margaret E. Peggy and Catherine. He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 81 on June 17th, 1888 in Estill Co., KY, USA.-
