Thomas Rucker 
Thomas was born about 1705 in Gloucestershire, England. Thomas' father was Peter Rucker and his mother was Elizabeth Fielding. His paternal grandfather was John. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Peter, Ephraim, William, James, Mary, Margaret, Ann and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the ten children. He died on June 11th, 1763 in Bromfield Parish, Culpepper Co., VA, USA.General Notes
Thomas migrated to America with his brother John. In about 1700 four
ships carrying seven hundred passangers sailed from Gravesend, ENG. for
America. They landed in Jamestown in that same year. From all indications
and records, Thomas and his brother John were among the leaders of the
passengers. A tradition handed down from the generations by descendants
is that the vessel in which John was sailing was wrecked in the Jamestown
Bay off the coast of VA. and that John floated for 3 days on a piece of
driftwood, being picked up by a passing vessel. Thomas was a land owner
of the early territory. Both Thomas and John took patents of land which
they could not do at the time unless they brought over other settlers or
had done something for the commonwealth. At that time no settlers could
take up over 50 acres unless they had earned the priveledge of taking
more. The brothers must have been naturalized in 1702 by Proclamation, as
the Hugenots were authorized at the time. John had 5850 acres of land in
the heart of the county which waas granted by Earl, King of ENG. Thomas
married in America. His will is on record in the office of the Circuit
Clerk of Culpepper Co., VA. from his will he died in 1763
