Benjamin was born on February 8th, 1808 in Wilkes Co., NC, USA. Benjamin's father is John Coffee and his mother was Elizabeth Rucker. His paternal grandfather was Benjamin Coffee and his paternal grandmother is Polly; his maternal grandfather was Colby Rucker and his maternal grandmother is Sarah Roberts. He had six brothers and five sisters, named George, Jesse T., Ashburn Osborn, Colby, John Jackson, William, Sarah Lucinda, Elizabeth, Nancy, Margaret E. Peggy and Catherine. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 59 on May 8th, 1867 in Rockcastle Co., KY, USA.-
