Her paternal grandparents are John Marshall and Adaline Unknown; her maternal grandfather was Johnnie J. Petty and her maternal grandmother is Rebecca Joanna Daniel. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Jessie James, Willie Larmar, Virgil Clifton, Rupert Lavern, J. A., Ruby and Dolly. She is the third youngest of the eight children. She had a half-sister named Myrtle.-
