His paternal grandparents are John Marshall and Adaline Unknown; his maternal grandfather was Johnnie J. Petty and his maternal grandmother is Rebecca Joanna Daniel. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Willie Larmar, Virgil Clifton, Rupert Lavern, J. A., Ruby, Lola and Dolly. He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-sister named Myrtle. He died at the age of 63 on October 5th, 1976. He was buried in Sandtown Cemetery,Philadelphia,MS.-
