James Granville was born on March 13th, 1871 in Whitley County,KY. James Granville's father was William Wesley Gilreath and his mother was Sarah Jane Gregory. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Jones Gilreath and Mary "Polly" Moore. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John Samuel, George Washington, William Elijah, Thomas Sylvester, Mary E., Susan E., Martha A., Hannah G. and Julia. He is the third youngest of the ten children.-
