Greenwood Alexander was born in August 1821 in Wilkes County,NC. Greenwood Alexander's father was Jeremiah Gilreath and his mother is Sarah Unknown. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Gilreath and Elizabeth Souther. He had a sister named Martha. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 41 in September 1862 in Cumberland County,KY.General Notes
Green, the oldest son of Jeremiah was born in Wilkes County, NC in 1821 and moved to Union County, GA in 1845/46. During the Civil War, Green and his second oldest son Noah served as a Confederates. During the Confederate retreat, shortly after the Battle of Perryville, KY, Green fell ill (measles), was left behind (October 1862) and never heard from again. Noah died of fever about two weeks later, after the Army had returned to Tennessee.
