Carrie Lee was born in 1929 in LaRue Co.,Kentucky. Carrie Lee's father was William Thomas DeSpain and her mother was Nora Alice Warren. Her paternal grandparents were William Lewis DeSpain and Elizabeth Ann Scott; her maternal grandparents were James Thomas Warren and Elizabeth DeSpain. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Harold Odren, Kenneth T., Russell, Eugene, Lucille, Mildred, Margie and Thelma Dean.-
