Charles of was born in 0954 in Laon, Aisne, France.  Charles of's father was Louis IV d'Outremere of France and his mother was Gerberga Auceps of Saxony.  His paternal grandparents were Charles III The Simple of France and Edgifu of England; his maternal grandparents were Henry I the Fowler of Germany and Mathilda (Mechtilde) of Ringleheim. He had a brother and two sisters, named Lothar V of, Hildegarde and Matilda. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Henri, Alberade (Aubree) of, Biltrude and Gerberge of Hainault and.  He died at the age of 32 in 0986 in Kerker, Orleans, France.  He was buried in St. Servatius, Maastricht.
