Edward the Elder of was born in Wessex, England.  Edward the Elder of's father was Alfred the Great of England and his mother was Eahlswith of the Gaini.  His paternal grandparents were Aethelwulf of Wessex and Osburga of the Isle of Wight; his maternal grandfather was Ethelred (Aethelred) Mucil of Gainsborough and his maternal grandmother is Eadburga of Mercia. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Edmund of, Aethelweard of, Aethelflaed of, Aethelgeofu of and Aelfthryth (Ethelswida) of.  He died in Farndon-on-Dee, Farrington, Berkshire, England.  He was buried in 0924 in New Minster, Winchester Cathedral, London, England.
