Zarah was born in Hebron, Canaan, Palestine. Zarah's father is Judah of the Bible and his mother was Tamar of the Bible. His paternal grandparents were Jacob of the Bible and Leah of the Bible; his maternal grandfather is Laban son of Bethuel. He had four brothers named Hur, Onam, Phares (Pharex) and Shelan.
