William was born in 1173 in England.  William's father was Henry II Plantagenet King of England and his mother was Rosamond de Clifford.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey V Plantagenet and Matilda Princess of England; his maternal grandparents were Walter de Clifford and Margaret de Toni. He had nine half-brothers and three half-sisters, named William, Henry, Richard I "Cour de Leon", Geoffrey, Phillip, John "Lackland", Peter, Morgan, Geoffrey Plantagenet, Matilda, Eleanor and Joanna.  He was buried in Cathedral, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
