Winona Jane was born on May 3rd, 1929 in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio. Winona Jane's father was John Gatten and her mother was Martha Rebecca Nalley. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Thomas Gatten and Hannah Jane Highman. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Floyd Dale, John, Flavil Luzelle, Sarah Evalee and Lola Irene. She is the youngest of the six children.-
