Vera Mae was born on August 18th, 1907 in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio. Vera Mae's father was Hamilton Gatten and her mother was Mary Ann Dougherty. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Thomas Gatten and Hannah Jane Highman. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Rupert Emile, Russell Wayne, James Oliver, Marie Cleste and Dorothy. She is the third youngest of the six children.-
