Marie Cleste was born on June 29th, 1897 in Wayne Twp, Monroe Co., Ohio. Marie Cleste's father was Hamilton Gatten and her mother was Mary Ann Dougherty. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Thomas Gatten and Hannah Jane Highman. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Rupert Emile, Russell Wayne, James Oliver, Vera Mae and Dorothy. She is the oldest of the six children.-
