Phoebe Elvira was born on June 13th, 1839 in Winchendon, Worchestershire, Massachusetts.  Phoebe Elvira's father was John Nichols and her mother was Mary Chase.  Her paternal grandparents were Solomon Nichols and Ruth Goodale; her maternal grandparents were Charles Chase and Hannah Stuart. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Horace, Harvy, Elmer, Melvin, George, John Stuart, Lucy Ann, Hannah Jane, Mary Ann and Ellen (Ella).  She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 84 on October 11th, 1923 in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  She was buried in Genoa, Kane, Illinois.

‌Phoebe Elvira and George Washington were married in a religious ceremony on June 13th, 1855 in Aurora, Kane, IL.  They had six sons and three daughters, named Melvin William, Charles Elmer, George Eddie, Clark Baker, Sidney Marcus, Bert L., Lucy Ann, Betsey (Bessie) Marie and Alice May.
