Ella Pauline was born on December 2nd, 1906 in Fertile, Polk, Minnesota. Ella Pauline's father was Clark Baker Goodale and her mother was Anna Christine Witty. Her paternal grandparents were George Washington Goodale and Phoebe Elvira Nichols; her maternal grandparents were Henrich (Henry) Witty and Maria (Mary) Hardt. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Arthur Lloyd, Earl Henry, Clarence Marvin, Bessie Elvira, Eva Mable, Lucy Ermin and Mae Edith.
