Matilda was born about 1173 in Bramber, Sussex, England.  Matilda's father was William III De Braose and her mother was Maud Matilda De Saint Valery.  Her paternal grandparents were William II De Braose and Bertha de Gloucester; her maternal grandparents were Bernald IV De Saint Valery and Matilda. She had thirteen brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Roger, Giles, Thomas, William IV, Walter, Reginald, Hugh, Henry, John, Bernard, Fulk, Philip, Flandrina, Joan Alice, Margaret, Leucia, Isabel and Eleanor.  She was the fourth oldest of the twenty children.  She died on December 29th, 1210.


Matilda's first family with Rhys Mechyll

They had a daughter named Gwenthlian Verch Rhys.


Matilda's second family with Gruffydd Ap Rhys

They had two sons and a daughter, named Rhy Ieuanc Ap, Owain Ap and Lleucu Verch.
