Miles Melvin Powers 
Miles Melvin was born on September 8th, 1867 in Spurgeon,Pike Co,Monroe Twp,IN. Miles Melvin's father was John S. Powers and his mother was Isophene Gentry. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Powers and Mrs. Cynthia Yarber; his maternal grandparents were David Gentry and Sarah (Sally)D McNeeley. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James Louis, William Henry, Marion Homer, Serena Melvina, Emerica Elizabeth and Rose Ann. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 81 on May 1st, 1949 in Johnson,Gibson County,Indiana. He was buried in Johnson,Gibson County,Indiana--Church Cemetery.General Notes
He was a well loved and respected member of his community and church. He was a carpenter and farmer. It is said of him that he could be given the dementions of building to be built and figure out to the last foot how much lumber etc. that would be needed and this with only a 4th grade education.
